Upcoming Show:South University Art Fair, July 19 – 22 Ann Arbor, Michigan Greetings from my Millbrook Studio This is just a heads up to let you know that I will be exhibiting at the South University Art Fair in Ann Arbor next weekend. You can find me in Booth #SU1103. For more show info, click here. I have some new large etchings that have just finished up like the one in the photo below called Arboreous and another called Five Jail Hill Trees. I will have them with me as well as other work created over the winter, like the image above. I have recently returned from hanging my work at the Wildewood gallery in Maynooth, Ontario. It’s in a beautiful wilderness area near Algonquin Park which I affectionately refer to as my old stomping grounds. It was there I figured out what I wanted to say through my artwork, and how to say it. No surprise the ‘what’ was the my love of natural areas which drew me there in the first place, and the seclusion afforded me the time to experiment with printmaking and hone the ‘how’. The exhibition is most appropriately called ‘Where it all Began’. Here is a 23 year old me at the back door of the studio that I built there, as well as a few pictures from the show. Here below are a few pictures I couldn’t resist adding. One is of the wonderful carpet of forget-me-nots along our creek trail. Another is of one of our resident snapping turtles emerging from the pond to find find the perfect spot to lay her eggs and the last is one of Evelyn’s chickens hoping to go for a ride with me on my bike. I look forward to seeing you soon!
Best wishes, George. Spring greetings from my studio. Although there is freezing rain falling today it’s supposed to finally warm up later next week. The crocuses and lilies outside my studio were struggling to come up through the remaining patches of ice and now there is few inches of hail on top. Only the returning Canada geese on our pond seem to be OK about this lingering frigid weather. I decided to skip my spring Texas shows (would definitely be warmer there) and a few others over the summer in order to spend time on all the things I enjoy doing that never seem to make their way up my list. So if you missed me at those shows, please feel free to check out the new work posted on my website. Talking of enjoyable things, I recently returned from a trip to the Canary Islands. Driving the hairpin, single lane roads up and down the spectacular forested and volcanic peaks of the Islands was a real treat, but it certainly made my frequent stops a little dicey. I plan to have some new etchings from the trip with me this summer. Click here to view some pictures from my trip. In June I’m looking forward to a gallery show in a small town near where I had my first studio in my 20’s. The studio was up on a steep hill surrounded by century pine trees and had a killer view down into the rolling Papineau Creek valley. A friend and I built it with the money I made working over two summers in the Canadian Arctic, my only ‘real’ jobs. It’s a beautiful wilderness area near Algonquin Park in which I affectionately refer to as my old stomping grounds. It was there I figured out what I wanted to say through my artwork, and how to say it. No surprise the ‘what’ was the my love of natural areas which drew me there in the first place, and the seclusion afforded me the time to experiment and hone my printmaking skills, in order to figure out the ‘how’. The exhibition is most appropriately called ‘Where it all Began’ after the title of an etching I did around that time, which is pictured below. Here are some pictures of the studio, I look forward to seeing if it is still there. Click on a cropped image below to see the full frame and scroll through them. I’m looking forward getting back out the road with my new work next month and I hope to see you at one of my shows.

I am looking forward to returning to Chesapeake Bay and visiting my favourite haunts, especially the Blackwater Refuge. I have had another busy but successful summer of exhibiting my work from Texas to Colorado to New York but my biggest, most recent news is becoming the grandfather of twins! As always, I will have some new images to exhibit as well as some gems from my archives. The etchings shown here are reflective of the season. The one below, titled Pine Forest, is typical of the Eastern Shore. It measures 18″ x 64″ framed. I have also posted a few pictures from my morning walk with Leo. See you in soon! Upcoming Show:South University Art Fair, July 20 – 23 South University Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan Greetings from my Millbrook Studio.
I am happy to let you know that I will be back to the South University Art Fair in Ann Arbor this coming weekend. You can find me at Booth # E82 on South University Avenue in front of Espresso Royale. For more show information, click here. I’ve had a busy exhibition season having most recently come back from Denver. As challenging as these outdoor fine art exhibitions can be, I relish the opportunity in my travels to explore alternate back roads where I can easily pull over and make U-turns to gather more images for potential etchings. I also really enjoy connecting with people across the country who are interested in art. It’s been an unusually rainy summer so far in Millbrook and I’ve posted a picture I’ve just taken of the front of my studio. The vines are especially happy and invigorated this year, obscuring my windows and my second floor doorway. Nevertheless, no complaints. I love it. I’m also including a photo of the colourful laneway leading to my studio. At the top is my etching On The Beach, and below the photos is an etching of our local Baxter Creek. As always, I look forward to seeing my artist friends and the many collectors who have purchased my work over the years. Looking forward to seeing you at the show. Best wishes, George. Upcoming Shows:Lakefront Festival of the Arts, June 16 – 18. Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Des Moines Arts Festival, June 23 – 25. Western Gateway Park, Des Moines, Iowa. Cherry Creek Arts Festival, July 1 – 3. Denver, Colorado. Greetings from my Millbrook Studio. The sun came out after three solid days of rain it’s appearance was perfect timed as this past weekend was the agricultural Millbrook Fair in our little village. It has been held here every year since 1849. Yes, with competitive judging (with coveted ribbons and trophies) of poultry, cows, horse events and home baking, it has a colourful and ride filled midway, truck and tractor pulls, a demolition derby, and a beer tent with live country music. The fair is our harbinger of oncoming summer and sets off the final frantic preparations for my upcoming exhibitions at the Lakefront Art Festival in Milwaukee, The Des Moines Art Festival and The Cherry Creek Arts Festival in Denver. Here are links for more show information: Lakefront Festival of the Arts Des Moines Arts Festival Cherry Creek Arts Festival At the top is my etching The Only Reality, it’s appropriately titled and depicts a trail I walk almost everyday. Lastly, here our laneway taken this morning. The fragrance is intoxicating. As always, I look forward to seeing my artist friends and the many collectors who have purchased my etchings over the years. Looking forward to seeing you at the show.
Best wishes, George. Upcoming Show:Art Birmingham, Saturday May 13th, Sunday May 14th Shain Park, Birmingham, Michigan Spring greetings from my Millbrook Studio. The sun has finally come out after three days of rain and I can almost hear a collective sigh of relief from everyone in our village. The high water levels are coming down and as soon as it warms up the flowers will open and the trees will leaf out. It’s a such a wonderful time of the year especially after a long winter. I’ve posted a picture of our Magnolia tree, every spring the squirrels eat most of the flower buds before they have a chance to bloom, nevertheless it’s the first to flower on our property so we love it, even if it looks a little tattered with just a few flowers. Notice the little chickadee on a branch in the middle? I am recently back from a successful trip to Texas and here’s a picture of me with the Jury Award I was happy to receive. I’m standing beside a flamboyant show Director and I’m not quite sure who that pink phone connects to. This weekend I will be exhibiting at Art Birmingham in Birmingham Michigan. My booth number is 69 and is located at my regular spring location on Martin Street at Pierce across from Townhouse.

Best wishes, George. Upcoming Shows:Main Street Arts Festival, Fort Worth, TX – April 20-23, 2017 Art in the Square, Southlake, TX – April 28-30, 2017 Greetings again from my Millbrook Studio. A few days ago I woke up to a surprise late winter wonderland. Here is a picture from my studio window that morning. This morning the warm sun is melting the last of the snow, the spring peepers in our ponds chirped loudly through the night and the crocuses, snowdrops and wood hyacinth flowers are making their appearance. Many songbirds have returned from their southern winter homes and my spirits soar with the oncoming of spring. Next week I will be driving down with my new work to exhibit in Texas at the Main Street Art Festival in Fort Worth (booth # 629) and at Art in the Square in Southlake (booth # M9), both are near Dallas. As always, I look forward to seeing my artist friends and the many collectors who have purchased my etchings over the years at these shows, and to the opportunity to explore more of the beautiful Texas Hill Country which should be in full bloom when I get there. Evelyn and I recently returned from an excellent three week trip to Peru. The country has a ton of ecological diversity and 5,000 years of civilization: Inca ruins and Colonial cities, the most colourful organically dyed and woven alpaca wool, Pisco sours and the best ceviche. We travelled by boat, plane, bus and train from the Ballestas Islands in the Pacific to the Sacred Valley of the Incas and Machu Picchu in the Andes, from the depths of the Amazon Rainforest to the immensity of the Colca Canyon which is twice as deep as the Grand Canyon. I’ve posted some of my pictures, it was hard picking just a few. If you would like to see more photos from my travels, click here. While you are on my website, feel free to peruse my image gallery and enjoy some of the updated images. Lastly, here are pictures of a few commissions I completed over the winter. Click on a cropped image below to see the full frame and scroll through them. Looking forward to seeing you at the show.
